Her final destination was Morocco. Soon she realised that her main work was to be amongst the Berber people who lived in the Middle Atlas areas. She became interested in their lives and culture, longing to share with them the Christian message and devoting all her energy to helping them. She learned their language and lived among them until 1969, when most of the missionaries working under the auspices of Gospel Missionary Union (now called Avant) were expelled, and Swannie was one of the last to leave. Her first Berber broadcast was transmitted through Trans World Radio on 8th February 1969. So Swannie moved to Corsica, taking with her a few Berber helpers and continuing with translation and radio broadcasts. Every few months she would make the hazardous journey to G.M.U.s Media Station in Malaga, Spain, and her diary plays a big part in describing the many amusing as well as heartrending incidents during the ten years in Corsica. This is the story of a courageous and spirited lady who defied convention and dared to live for God in a world that often had no place for women.
